Our Commitment to Privacy

Squawk is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your audio data is yours alone, and we have designed our app to reflect this belief.

Data Collection

Squawk does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data or audio recordings.

We mean it. Zero data collection. Zero tracking. Zero analytics.

Microphone Access

Squawk requests microphone access to analyze audio amplitude (volume) in real-time. Here's exactly what happens:

• NO audio is recorded
• NO audio is stored to disk
• NO audio is transmitted over the network
• Only amplitude measurements are calculated
• All measurements are immediately discarded after use

The microphone permission is required solely for real-time volume analysis. The audio data never leaves the audio processing pipeline.

Local Data Storage

The only data stored locally on your device:

• User Preferences: Widget size, icon choice, volume thresholds, widget position, and other customization settings
• Speaking Statistics: Time spent in each volume zone (green/yellow/red) for your own reference

All data is stored in macOS UserDefaults and never leaves your device. You can reset all settings at any time from the app.

Third-Party Services

Squawk does NOT use any third-party services.

• No analytics services (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
• No crash reporting services
• No advertising networks
• No user tracking of any kind

The app is completely self-contained and operates entirely offline.

Network Activity

Squawk makes ZERO network requests.

You can verify this using macOS network monitoring tools. The app operates entirely offline and will function perfectly even without an internet connection.

App Sandbox

Squawk runs in the macOS App Sandbox, which means it has restricted access to your system. The app can only:

• Access the microphone (with your explicit permission)
• Read and write its own preferences
• Display UI elements on screen

It cannot access your files, contacts, calendar, or any other data outside its sandbox.

Children's Privacy

Squawk does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since we don't collect any information at all, this app is safe for users of all ages.

Your Rights

Since we don't collect your data, there's nothing to:

• Request access to
• Request deletion of
• Opt out of
• Export

Your data stays on your device, under your control. You can delete the app at any time to remove all local preferences.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change our privacy practices (spoiler: we won't start collecting data), we will update this page with a new "Last Updated" date. Material changes will be prominently disclosed in the app.
